My Trip to the Dominican Republic

My girlfriends and I decided to travel to the Dominicans, and this was the best thing I could have done since my split with Shawn. I was not very keen to travel to begin with, as I had read some particularly unpleasant reviews about the safety factor for women, but once there my fears were unfounded. Although the streets were nothing to talk about, they were uncluttered with dirt, and the street hawkers did not harass us to buy anything from them.

We were not too keen to travel as part of a standardized group, and opted for a flexi-tour which we found on an online travel website. This gave us the freedom to do our own thing and explore the Dominican. Our package included stay at the Iberostar Costa Dorada, which had a beach side location and gave us easy access to the aquamarine waters and the sand. The meals at the hotel were good and we had a vast menu to choose from. We didn’t have to venture out of the hotel for shopping as there was a mall in the hotel as well as a casino to try our luck. My friend Sasha lost quite a bit of money playing in the casino.

The highlight of out trip was a visit to the city of Santo Domingo. I absolutely loved the Zona Colonial area. Since we had a bit of time on our hands we visited quite a few shops that had some delicate amber jewelry. The keen vacationer that I am, the Dominican Outback Safari and the Scubadoo Underwater adventure really added to the thrill of traveling. The little time that was left after all the travel, was spent on the beach acquiring a lovely tan.

Did you know that the Meringue originated in the Dominican Republic? Well this was the first that I heard of it. Anyway it didn’t really make a difference as long as I could just dance till the wee hours of the morning. We went to the La Guacara Taina disco where the music was just fantastic and so were the guys. Well I definitely don’t regret my travel to the Dominican Republic.
