East Meets West Through Buddhist Institute

The existence of a Buddhist organization in an Eastern European country may seem surprising. But Buddhism has come of age in the secularized West. Its reach is expanding beyond its original Eastern context and Hungary’s East-West Research Institute is bringing this worldview to the rest of the globe.

Although Hungarian culture is largely influenced and informed by Christian values and perspectives, many Hungarians “have a traditional interest in Eastern cultures, because they are thought to have come from Inner Asia,” said Tamas Agocs, director of the institute.

This may be why the only state-accredited Buddhist institute of higher education in Europe, the “Gate of the Dharma” Buddhist University, was founded in Budapest in 1991.

The university subsequently established the East-West Research Institute “to provide framework and conditions for scientific research into the possibilities of Buddhist education and the dissemination and application of Buddhist principles in the country,” said Agocs.

As globalization continues to make the world smaller, participants strive to increase the dialogue between the “East” the Asian cultures that have been shaped by Buddhist thought and the “West” the modern, scientific cultures that originated in Western Europe. With this goal in mind, they also work towards making the values of Buddhism known in the West.

Without forsaking the integrity of Buddhist views, values and practices, Agocs said their goal is “to enter the East-West dialogue not just in order to find interesting parallels and differences between Eastern and Western discourses, but with a view towards the constructive and creative application of Buddhist principles in all walks of life.”

According to Agocs, the open attitude of Buddhist thought is the ideal starting point for furthering the science-and-religion discussion.

“Buddhism shares many methods with Western science. They both emphasize the unbiased examination, thoughtful analysis and critical testing of experience,” said Agocs.

However, the direction of the approach is different, he said. “The basic difference is that Buddhist inquiry is directed mainly inwards, towards the consciousness, while scientific research is mostly targeted outside.”

In addition to participating in the science-and-religion dialogue and organizing conferences on the intersection between the East and the West, the institute promotes research on the study of the Buddhist tradition and explores Buddhism as an applied science that can provide answers to challenges faced in the world today.

Current programs include the Milky Way project, which is establishing a Buddhist school. The institute is also sponsoring research on the mind and the application of Buddhist mind training methods to psychology and community building. Eventually, Agocs said he would like to build cooperative relationships between the center and other international organizations for interdisciplinary research projects.

Personal Budgeting Is A Tool For Financial Survival

Thousands of wage earners and single business owners live on borrowed money until a drastic change in earnings forces them into a downward spiral of mounting debts and missed payments that budgeting wisely could have prevented in the first place. Getting out of debt is not easy but it can be done by consolidating credit card payments into one payment and only using it for extreme emergencies freeing up some much needed cash.

Fixed Expenses

Fixed expenses are subtracted monthly from the net deposit such as: a mortgage payment or rent, auto insurance, cable or satellite dish network, a newspaper, a loan or one credit card payment, an automobile payment, internet services If at possible these payments can be set up automatically at the companies source or at the banks where they have automatic bill pay deducting them automatically from the net deposit. Using a checking account or debit cash card instead of a credit card.

Other Expenses

Utility payments fluctuate and it is better to pay them monthly online or automatically by telephone for timely payments Gasoline and groceries are budgeted weekly and hopefully using a debit cash card instead of a credit card or a gasoline card where
a high interest rates adds to the purchase. These expenses can be curtailed by shopping wisely and maybe finding other sources of transportation. Tracking each expense is important and the budget will reflect how much cash is left after the
fixed expenses and the other weekly or monthly expenses are subtracted.

Usually, two pay periods a month are where wage earners can budget their fixed expenses and other expenses by splitting them. For example: The mortgage payment, a fixed expense, a loan payment( from debt consolidation) or a rental payment
is budgeted at the first of the month. The rest of the fixed expenses and the other expenses are budgeted at the middle of the month and there should be some extra cash left over. Opening another checking account and putting fifty dollars a month
into it and by the end of the year it will add up to six hundred dollars. By the end of two years twelve hundred dollars. It will be enough for some major purchase with charging it or just some extra cash for emergencies.

A budget is a form of discipline that most everyone finds restricting. However,it does not take the brain of a financial wizard or an accounting expert to set up a simplified form for a budget sheet. It is just a matter of fixed expenses and other expenses minus a net deposit. If a wise man or a wise woman walks
with a purpose then it is a wise budgeter who always has some extra cash.

The author has found that by consolidating credit cards and wise
budgeting she has some extra cash left over during the month.

At the most recent Toy Fair in New York City, toy manufacturers got the chance to display and show off their newest goodies to retailers. Below are some of the toys that were debuted.

- Nerf Showtime Hoops: This Hasbro creation features an electronic basketball hoop system with a ball that bounces off of the backboard, but is just soft enough to prevent breaking a window. This toy was developed with And1, a popular basketball brand. The hoop goes up to 6 feet and 7 inches, and features the interactive voice of And1’s emcee “Duke Tango.” The hoop also comes with built-in speakers, jacks for portable music players, cup holders, drink dispenser, scoreboard, and a spotlight that shows the child where to stand. [$250]

- My Furreal Friends Pony: Hasbro also created an animated pony with sensors that will respond to touch, sound, and light. Children can climb on the pony’s back to go for a ride, while the toy makes galloping sounds. If its mane is brushed, the pony will neigh. If the pony’s name is called out, the toy will turn its head towards the sound of the voice. [$300]

- Play-Doh: In light of Play-Doh’s 50th birthday, Hasbro has introduced a birthday cake-shaped pack of 50 Play-Doh colors, featuring six new colors. [$13]

- Moon Sand: Spin Master introduces a new rival to Play-Doh with its Moon Sand, a sand-like substance that can be molded into shapes just like regular dough. But the key difference here is that Moon Sand will never dry when it is left out and can be molded again after it is left alone for a period of time. [$5-20]

- Digital Spy Camera: Wild Planet has come out with a pair of shades for kids who aspire to become spies. These sunglasses can take up to 20 photos with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels with its retractable camera. [$35]

Your Brain Can Help You Lose Weight Or Make You Fat!

Have you done this before?

You have set your weight loss goals and mapped out your plan to lose all those excess pounds that you have been dying to get rid off.

In your mind, you have psyched yourself up — this time you are going all the way out to lose all those pounds! “Nothing can stop me,” you tell yourself.

Then, you rationalize that…

1) In order for you to succeed in your weight loss goals, you must follow a super-strict diet and exercise routine.

and/or

2) If you happen to go off track in your diet or exercise routine by eating your favorite high-calorie junk food and skipping your exercise session, this means you have totally blown off your plan altogether.

Sound familiar?

I sure hope not!

This train of thought can be very detrimental to your weight loss efforts, but it’s all too easy to fall into this trap. And not only is it very harmful to your body, it actually lowers your self-esteem too.

Your brain can help you to lose weight, or it can make you fat.

If you want to lose weight successfully, you’ll need to have the right thoughts in your brain. Conversely, holding on tight to the wrong concepts can (and will!) jeopardize your plans!

Here’s what you should do instead…

1) Get rid of the word “DIET” from your thoughts

Firstly, you must shake off the idea that you absolutely have to follow an extremely restrictive diet in order to lose weight successfully.

In fact, most people who are able to lose their unwanted weight successfully DO NOT diet. What they do is simply change their lifestyle such as practicing portion control, moderation, cutting back on calories and curbing their emotional eating bouts.

It’s time to change your focus from weight loss to weight management. It is not just losing weight, it is about changing your lifestyle so that you can maintain your weight loss.

And do you notice how most women like to use the word “diet” every time they want to lose weight? We “go on” and “go off” diets after every holiday season; we say “I start on Monday” only to go off it by the weekend. Nobody says “I start my new way of life on Monday.” But that’s exactly what we need to do. An effective diet isn’t just for Christmas or just a very special occasion, it’s for your whole life.

We need variety not only for our nutritional reasons. It is also to satisfy ourselves, and to take care of our “wants.” So, you need to create your own healthy lifestyle… the lifestyle that you want, and one that’s sustainable for the long term.

Be wary of any plan that restricts entire food groups, or if it relies on just 1 type of food (e.g. soup or salad) as its mainstay.

Believe me, I’ve been there and done that. If you go on a diet that requires you to eat all the food that you hate or totally omits your favorites, you are going to dread your meals and are bound to fail. Even if you manage to lose the weight, all your pounds (and probably more!) will creep back once you are off the diet.

2) Do NOT give up your favorite foods

Another thing that most women would do initially is severely limiting their food intake. Or they completely cut off their favorite foods.

This is one thing that you should never do.

“Why?”

Well, by doing that, it sets you up for binges and your temptation for these foods would definitely increase.

Instead, you should reduce your consumption slowly. For example, you always have desserts after dinner. Instead of cutting off totally, you start by reducing your portion size to half. Thus, the temptation becomes much less powerful when you have just the taste of something “bad” now and again instead of telling yourself that it is off limits for good.

After a while, you will find yourself accustomed to the new portion sizes, and you’ll be able to satisfy your craving with just a small amount of your “super sinful” foods.

3) Forgive and move on…

So, you decide to keep your favorite foods in your weight loss plan. You allow yourself a chocolate cookie everyday. But, you could not resist the temptation and you finish half of the pack. Next day afternoon, you finish the remaining half of the chocolate cookies pack for your afternoon tea.

Gee, have you blown your weight loss plan again? Does that mean you should just give up the idea of losing those extra pounds and go back to my old eating habits?

Well, not allowing yourself to make mistakes is the worst mistake you can ever make. Seriously.

Having this all-or-nothing thinking is a way to let you off the hook. It is an escape route that you create for yourself. In your mind, you could be telling yourself, “Oh well. It is all gone. I guess I don’t have to bother anymore. Give me my cookies.”

There’s an old saying that goes, “No matter how far along you are down the wrong path, it’s never too late to turn back.” So don’t think just because you made bad choices today, you can’t start over tomorrow.

Everyday is truly a new beginning. You do not have to wait until a new year, a new month or a Monday to start all over again.

You can’t erase last night’s binge, but you can aim for a much healthier today!

4) Create a lifestyle you want

Many times, when you want to lose weight, you will plan up a very strict diet and exercise routine for yourself. Well… there is a high chance that you would not be able to execute it successfully. To make things worse, you hate it.

Why not aim to create a healthy lifestyle you want so that you do not give up your favorite foods?

You must create a realistic and achievable weight loss plan. After all, you want to plan to SUCCEED, not to fail, right?

If you find difficulty in creating a good plan for yourself, or if you can’t seem to discipline yourself to stay true to your plan, I suggest that you engage a personal trainer to help you.

5) Celebrate your small victories

Every time you achieve a small milestone, go ahead and reward yourself.

But do not over-indulge. For example, you can reward yourself a small ice-cream once you have managed to complete your first week of exercise routines. Or when you lose your first 3 pounds, you can treat yourself a slice of cheese cake.

Remember, it is alright to reward yourself for the small challenges you have overcome so that you won’t give up so easily. Let it be something you look forward to every time you surmount a challenge.

If you set up your rewards properly, they’ll motivate you on a daily basis and you’ll find it easier to follow your weight loss plans!

Bonus: And here’s one more extra tip… Don’t stress yourself. Take it easy on yourself as you’re learning how to be a new, improved and healthier you. After all, you’re only human… a soon-to-be-much-lighter human!

Single moms, like the rest of us, enjoy receiving gifts. Whether it is Christmas, a birthday, Mother’s Day, or a gift as a token of love, gifts have a special place in their lives. Some of them might joy musical gifts such as ballerina music boxes, musical jewelry boxes, wooden keepsake boxes, and other music boxes. However, not just any type of gift will do! They are certain types of gifts that single moms will appreciate more than others. Let’s discover what they are.

First, here is what to avoid: purchasing hats, scarves, expensive bottles of perfume, and other pricey items unless they are items she truly desires. Some people think these types of gifts will be greatly appreciated since she could not afford them herself. For the most part, this is not the case. Most single moms will, of course, be gracious. However, in their heads they likely are thinking, “I could have used the money it cost for this gift to pay my car payment or get my car tuned up!”

Seriously, what are the perfect gifts for single mom’s? Many times it is simple as just taking some of the stress and pressure off. They need someone to take the kids for a few days so they can rest, nap, get a manicure, or spend time with a girlfriend.

What would really make her happy is for someone to pay her electric bill for one month. What would make her smile is to give her a babysitting coupon for a few Saturday nights. She really would like to relax and have special mom time by someone taking the kids for a day or weekend. These types of thoughtful gifts single moms’ love.

If a single mom has experienced participated in activities that would invoke special memories with family and friends, and there are lots of pictures that have been taken, gifts such as a scrapbook of memories, or a video of these special events would bring a smile to her face.

If you have a number of single mom’s for friends, you’ll notice a common thread. They may not need help and would not ask, but if help is received, it would mean so much to them. So, instead of giving expensive and pretty gifts, thoughtfully think about what would make life just a little easier. What would take some of the pressure off and bring relief? These types of gifts are the perfect gifts for single moms!

Simple Tips On Getting Your Loan

So, you want to get a loan?

Here are some simple tips that will help you make an informed decision about what kind to get, and who to get it from.

First ask yourself: do you really need it?

Can you manage without it?
Is it for something frivolous, like a holiday?
Could you get the money by other means: part-time job, from a relative, the sale an asset?

Don’t put a monkey on your back if you can avoid it.

A loan varies according to:

The amount borrowed;

The interest rate;

The type of rate (fixed or variable);

The term (repayment time in months or years);

Deposit (downpayment);

Associated fees (broker, origination, prepayment etc.);

Insurance required by the lender.

You are buying money for more than it cost the lender. Simple.

It’s a mistake to only care about the interest rate; there are also arrangement fees and prepayment penalties to consider. Many ‘no fee’ credit lines have a pre-payment penalty. This is how brokers and lenders make their money. Work out the total cost of your loan before committing.

To ensure you get the best terms, keep your credit-line as small as possible. Loan officers tend to count the total line of credit available as a liability.

Pay off small debts before the due date. Cancel credit cards you are not using. Consider their interest rates and fees, when deciding which cards to keep.

If your spending is out of control, don’t put your home at risk by getting a home equity credit line to pay off your credit-card debts.

Shop for rates when the market is calm. Rates change from day to day, so compare lenders. The quotes you get should all be from the same time period.

Submit a neat application form; it shows you’re business-like and efficient. It will be read and assessed by a human being; appearances count.

Only pay up-front fees to well-known institutions, or ones highly recommended by trusted sources.

Don’t sign documents without reading them. As soon as possible, before you close the deal, review the documents you’ll be signing, and make sure you understand them, so you won’t have to sign them in a hurry.

Keep a copy of every cheque you write for your loan. If you call your lender about your loan, make sure you get the full name of the person with whom you speak. Make a note of it. You may be dealing with a large bureaucracy, and will need to refer to this conversation later.

If you find yourself in a dispute with a lender, don’t send correspondence to the same address you send your payment. You need to deal with the decision-makers, not the account clerks.

For this, you will not need to leave home to have a go at online card-playing as everything is done from your bedroom if you have access to a computer and broadband Internet access. On the other hand, before indulging yourself, there are a good many guidelines and details that you positively should be made aware of concerning online card-playing, notably should you happen to be lacking experience in this area.

Visit this top casino game online review site for tips and cash games.

The top priority that a discriminating web risker like yours truly is certain to pursue is an online card-playing Web site of the sort capable of offering high winnings. Make a point of establishing that the online card-playing Web site is inspected by a respectable bookkeeping firm in order to inspect their online games pay-outs percentage regularly. You must always make sure that the online gambling Web site is verifiably licensed, such as by examining the certified approval on site. Should you be unable to localize any certified approval on your chosen online gambling Web site, don’t even endeavor to try your luck with that webpage.

Moreover, another advice would obviously be to test the odds at the start in minor amounts instead of blowing too much immediately. Check out the security measures of this particular online gambling organization before daring to risk any severe menace, notably in terms of money! Last but not least, here’s the most meaningful tip concerning online gambling. It is, expectably, always to bear in mind that any kind of gambling is always about recreation and less about making money. Capt’n Salsa’s Grill Roasted Yard Bird,

Wow I have a hankering for some really good grill roasted chicken, the melt in your mouth variety with some fresh homemade salsa slathered right on top. Just seems that we never have time during the lazy days of summer to everything done. You know, you have to mow the grass, weed the garden and if you’re lucky harvest a bounty of fresh produce from your own little truck farm.

Now you expect me to cook supper too? It’s time to tell you my secret and go hunting for my favorite “yard bird”, Capt’n Salsa’s Grill Roasted Yard Bird, to be exact.

Yes.

Delicious golden brown moist and tender some of the best melt in your mouth grill roasted chicken you will ever eat. Now, don’t let the hunting phrase concern you. The extent of hunting chicken for me is looking for a big plump 3½ to 4 pounder at the local grocery or meat market. I always bag my limit of two because it is just as easy to cook two at the same time to guarantee some leftovers…

“Come on, Capt’n Salsa, quit beating around the bushes and just give us the recipe!”

Oh, Okay.

Capt’n Salsa’s Grill Roasted Yard bird is so easy you will probably laugh. Of course it goes with out saying you need to rinse the chicken in cold water before you cook it. All you are going to need is a generous amount of Lemon Pepper Seasoning. Mix up a solution of 1 part vegetable oil with 4 parts of Apple Cider Vinegar, remember that’s the brown vinegar, together in a squirt bottle, an empty syrup bottle will do just fine.

Now we are going to cook our grilled chicken whole on your favorite charcoal or 2 burner gas grill using the “indirect heat” method. Your grill needs a lid that will close, too. Most of the time now I just use the gas grill, heating the grill with both burners, then turn one of them totally off, yes, off and the other burner turn it all the way down to low.

I’m getting a little ahead of myself. Preheat your choice of grills. Then rinse and clean the birds. Now hose down the chicken with the mixture of oil and vinegar using the squirt bottle and sprinkle a generous portion of Lemon Pepper Seasoning all over the chicken. Don’t forget the body cavity.

Place the chicken breast side up on the grill away from the heat source, above the burner that is turned off, indirect heat method remember. Squirt a little more oil and vinegar into the cavity of the chicken until it “overflows.” Now close the lid. You want a low to medium low heat level. The objective is to take at least 2 to 2 ½ hours to cook the chicken, nice and slow. Don’t worry after a couple of times you will have it “down to a science” and know what works best for you.

Once you have your chicken on the grill go mow the grass or work in your garden for the next 2 to 2 ½ hours without even looking at the birds…well, if you insist on looking after about an hour, you can raise the lid and give the birds a good squirt of the oil and vinegar solution…Now, close that lid and get back to work…ggg.

You will know the chicken is done by grabbing the tip of one of the legs with a paper towel, careful it will be hot, and gently twist the leg bone in a circle. If the leg bone easily breaks free at the joint, the chicken is done - a beautiful golden brown, moist and tender every time.

Easy huh?

Place the chicken on the grill, mow the grass and when you are finished with your yard you have Capt’n Salsa’s Grill Roasted Chicken make that Yard Bird! Serve it up with one of your favorite homemade salsa recipes.

Roasted Corn Salsa or tasty Salsa de Tomatillos Delicious! Wrap it all up in a warm tortilla, complete with your favorite thirst quenching beverage and you will marvel about how great your yard looks.

Imagine. Mowing the grass and cooking supper all at the same time…Enjoy!

He’s on His way…

Apostles’ Creed “He shall come to judge the living and the dead.”

Terry Dashner (www.ffcba.com)

“He shall come,” says the Creed. This is the unequivocal declaration of the oldest creed of Christendom. It is in the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Constantinopolitan Creed, the Westminster Confession of the Presbyterians, in the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Anglicans, the Augsburg Confession of the Lutherans. It is in all of the great creeds of Christendom. It is found in all of the systematic theologies, the lectionaries, and the hymnals of all of the Christian churches of history. It is part of the great faith of Jesus Christ! He shall come again!

The Old Testament distinctly prophesied it. Scores of passages in the New Testament expressly declare it. Jesus Himself told us unmistakably that: “Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” (Matthew 26:64) The Apostles also say we are: “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13) Philippians 3:20 says, “Our conversation [our life] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” In that day we are to be:…”unblamable in holiness…at the coming of our Lord Jesus…We which are alive and remain shall be caught up…to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord…When the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven…When the chief Shepherd shall appear…”

How will Jesus come again? This Second Advent of Christ is the great hope for the Christian. It is to be the final culminating point of history–the great climacteric of the ages. How shall he come? He will come, bodily. The Bible says that Jesus will appear the second time and every eye shall see Him. This will be a physical return of Jesus to the same place where He ascended–the Mount of Olives. He will come gloriously. His first advent was His coming like a meek and lowly Lamb of God to be slain for the sins of the world. This He fulfilled having been born in a manger, living a simple life, declaring the works of God as being “at hand,” and His rejection and crucifixion by men. His Second Advent will be much different in that Jesus will come as a Lion from the tribe of Judah. He will come as the conquering Lord of Lords and King of Kings. No one will simply overlook Him because there is no beauty to be found in Him. He will get everyone’s attention when He comes the second time. He will come triumphantly. Those who cursed Him will wail because of Him at His return. Jesus will crush His opposition with His perfect justice–a rod of iron. He will set up His kingdom in triumph in the capital city of Jerusalem. From His throne in Jerusalem, He will rule over the nations for a thousand years. He will come unexpectedly. He’s coming like a “thief in the night.” Will you be ready for His soon return?

Jesus made a promise that He will keep–you can bank on it! Jesus keeps all His promises. He has told us in His word that He will come again. If you fail to get ready for His return, you are going to be left behind. He doesn’t want to leave you behind. He wants to embrace you–just like you are–and change your life into eternal life, abundant life. Can you receive this message? If so, call upon the name of the Lord, and He will hear you and save you. All the current world events are drawing us closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Call on Jesus. He’s as close as the mention of His name. He will save you, now.

Keep the faith. Stay the course. Jesus is our soon coming King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
